Amongst the methods employed to ensure thiscondition we mention : Surrounding the containing jarwith a jacket; causing water to circulate in the spacebetween the two vessels : or forming one electrode of aspiral of lead tubing through which cold water is circulat-ing : or providing a containing vessel of such capacity thatthe heating of the electrolyte and the consequent. The various attempts to substitute different metals andelectrolytes for the orginal lead and sulphuric acid havenot been productive of any appreciable advantage, andgenerally require higher voltages. The electrolytic interrupter produces considerable noisewhen working, which is apt to be disagreeable to somepatients; for this reason, and also because acid fumes aregiven off, the break may be placed in some other room.
