It is of strong, free growth with large dark green leaves from each axil of which, one to two feet long and nearly one inch thick, rope-like spikes of velvety crimson flowers are gracefully suspended, as shown in illustration, page 60, which conveys but a faint idea of the beauty and distinct warm coloring of this splendid acquisition; but the remarkable floriferousnoss and the great size of the spikes of flowers compared to the plant is fairly well shown.
