Young girl of Bayeux. No woman of high society would wear such a low-cut neckline in Paris as this floozy. The bonnet has no tails, but the base and the papillon (butterfly) are decorated with beautiful embroidery. Hand-colored fashion plate illustration by Lante engraved by Gatine from Louis-Marie Lante's "Costumes des femmes du Pays de Caux," 1827/1885. With their tall Alsation lace hats, the women of Caux and Normandy were famous for the elegance and style.
