IVF embryo, light micrograph

Light micrograph of a human embryo produced from in vitro fertilisation (IVF) at the 8 cell stage, three days after fertilisation. Known as a morula, this is a cluster of eight large rounded cells called blastomeres that have divided from a single fertilised cell (zygote). Subsequent division of these cells results in the formation of a hollow ball of cells known as a blastocyst.
