Mr. Meyerhas four acres in Valencia oranges and six acres of walnuts, and takes a just pride inthe neat appearance of his acreage. He was born in Clinton County, 111., August 24,1880, and when five years old, in 1885, accompanied his parents, August and Fredericka(PfeifTer) Meyer to Neosho County, Kans., where the father becaine the owner of a160-acre farm. The parents and their seven children are living, and Andrew is theyoungest son and fifth child in order of birth in the parental family. He early becameaccustomed to ranch work, plowing when only ten years of age, and grew to youngmanhood on the home farm, assisting in the various duties that pertain to life on afarm. He was educated in the common schools of his home district, and in 1906 wentto Idaho and Washington, returning after eight months to his Kansas home. The next^•ear he removed to northwestern Kansas where he remained three and a half HISTORY OF ORANGE COUNTY 1357 He was associated with his brother George in this venture, and they purchased 320acres of land, which they afterward traded for 480 acres. From 1906 to 1912 theyran from eighty to one hundred head uf cattle and about the same number of swineon their property. In 1913 Mr. Meyer went to Wichita Falls. , where he worked at the carpen-ters trade for one year. He then tried his fortune in central Kansas, continuing thesame occupation, and afterwards went to northwestern Kansas and engaged in the realestate business for one and a half years. Then Californias charms appealed to him andhe decided to cast his lot in that state. He came to the Pacific Coast in 1915, and inNovember of that year established domestic ties by his marriage with Mrs. EmmaSt
