View from the S aisle of St Protus and St Hyacinth's Church, Blisland, Cornwall, England, UK, showing the Victorian replica rood screen. A Norman cruciform church enlarged in the C15th & restored in Medieval style in 1894 by the architect Frederick Charles Eden. The large tie beam across the S aisle was in danger of collapse. The restoration was led by the Rector Vernon Edward-Collins, the costs of £1,300 were paid for by the villagers & members of the Edward-Collins family. Blisland Church was a firm favourite of the Poet Laureate, Sir John Betjeman CBE. The C15th octagonal stone font (R) has a cone topped wood & glass cover containing a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary holding the Infant Jesus. The carved timber wine-glass pulpit with a sounding board (L) is probably Jacobean (late C17th) but sometimes described as Georgian. The carved wagon (barrel vaulted) roofs over the nave, chancel & S aisle are C15th. Protus & Hyacinth were brothers martyred for their Christian faith in Rome in the C3rdAD. They are known locally as Pratt and Hatt, the church's affectionate alternative name is St Pratts.
