On the 17th Sept. 3830, having been thoroughlyrepaired, it was, by an ordinance of the City Govern-ment, called the City Hall,—by which name it hassince been designated. It stands at the head of StateStreet, and on the line of Washington Street, the Broad-way of the metropolis of Massachusetts, having a toweroverlooking most of the city and harbour, rising fromthe centre of the roof. The fronts on Washington andState Streets have each a portico.
