Hypergiant star. Artwork showing a hypergiant star and its surrounding dusty disk. Our solar system is shown at bottom as a size comparison. The disk surrounding the star could contain dust and rocky material that will accrete to form planets, or that is debris from previously formed plants. Two hypergiant stars, known as R 66 and R 126 have been found in the Large Magellanic Cloud, 170,000 light years from Earth.
