Marine Corps Cpl. Sean M. Monk, a systems engineer with Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 1, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, poses for a photo on Camp Courtney, Okinawa, Japan, April 28, 2021. “I’m from Beaumont, Texas, and I joined the Marine Corps because I wanted to travel and challenge myself to do something different. I’ve been in Okinawa since March 2020. I love the island, it’s beautiful, and the weather is great because I hate the cold. My favorite things to do here are go to the beach, explore, and try new food. My unit has been good to me, and I’ve been able to go on a few exercises

My favorite things to do here are go to the beach, explore, and try new food. My unit has been good to me, and I’ve been able to go on a few exercises. In my unit, I’m an engineer for our satellite system, so I work on bringing it up, connecting to the network, and making sure it can pull services. My goal in the Marine Corps is to meet as many cool people as I can, do as many interesting things as possible, go to as many places I can and just travel around and explore the Marine Corps. I became a range coach because it was an opportunity presented to me, and I thought it’d be fun. I’m also looking to become a MCIWS (Marine Corps Instructor of Water Survival).”
