I4B UNIlERSITIES AND THEIR SONS ADAMS, William Crittenden Columbia in San Francisco, Cal., 1863 ; educated at LyonsCollegiate Institute, Anthon Grammar School andArnold School, New York City ; graduated ColumbiaSchool of Mines, 1884; spent some time in the BridgeDepartment of the New York Central Railroad; in partnership with his brother in New York City,as operators and speculators in real estate. CRITTENDEN ADAMS, RealEstate Operator, was born in San Eran-cisco, California, April ii, 1863, son of Samuel andAlice (White) Adams, both of New York City. The. \VM. ahams family is of English-French ancestry, but has longbeen domiciled in this country. His parents re-turned to New York City while he was quite young,and there he attended the Lyons Collegiate Institute,Anthon Grammar School and Arnold School. In1880 he entered the School of Mines of Columbia,in the engineering department, where he receivedtheoretical and practical training in field andlaboratory work. He graduated from that insti-tution in with the degree of Civil Engineer,and shortly thereafter entered the service of tlieNew York Central Railroad, in the Bridge Depart-ment. In January 1890, he formed a partnershipwith his brother, Samuel F. Adams (Columbia A. ), as operators and speculators in real estate inNew York Citv, which connection still exists.
