PORTMEIRION SNOWDONIA WALES

THE VILLAGE OF PORTMEIRION IN NORTH WALES WAS THE DREAM OF ARCHITECT BERTRAM CLOUGH WILLIAMS-ELLIS 1883-1978. HE ACQUIRED THE SITE FOR APPROX £5000 IN 1925 AND SPENT HIS LIFE BUILDING A FANTASY ORNATE VILLIAGE BASED ON ITALIAN ARCHITECTURE. THE VILLAGE GAINED FAME IN THE 1960'S WHEN IT WAS USED AS A SETTING FOR THE TELEVISION SERIES THE PRISIONER. THE VILLAGE IS NOW ONE OF SNOWDONIA'S MAJOR TOURIST ATTRACTIONS
