Padaung, or Long-Necked Karen, girl, Chiang Dao, northern Thailand

The Padaung, also known as the Kayan or Long-Necked Karen, arrived in Thailand in the 1980s as refugees from the wars in Burma. They are particularly famous for the extraordinary neck rings worn by the women, which give the illusion of a long neck by pushing down the shoulders.
