Light micrograph of the posterior lobe of a rat pituitary gland, stained with Gabe's fuchsin-paraldehyde method. With this method the neurosecretory material is intensely stained and can be seen occupying the entire posterior lobe. The intensely stained beads are Herring's bodies. The red blood cells of the blood vessels appear stained in yellow. Magnification: x180 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
