A small, remote, island it is popular with travelers bt has it's own dedicated full time residents many of whom commute to Portland. The sea coast iis rockbound, has two monument buildings to veterans of two Maine Regiments of the American Civil War and fortifications that protected Portland harbor and its Liberty Ship industry during WWII.
