To theeast, the undulations were less abrupt, but the eye wanderedover the contour of the billowy ranges, resting at last upon the far distant horizon, _^ where the peaks of theWhite Mountains cutthe sky line and stoodplainly relieved againstthe azure of the heavenabove.
