Natural area of Sant Miquel de Fai in Bigues i Riells in the region of Valles Oriental province of Barcelona,Catalonia,Spain


Natural area of ​​high heritage and landscape value of hectares located between the municipalities of Bigues i Riells, Sant Feliu de Codines and Sant Quirze Safaja. Since 2017 it belongs to the Barcelona Provincial Council. The water, coming from the Rossinyol and Tenes rivers, and also from the rains and melting ice, has created a unique landscape in Sant Miquel del Fai, where it has formed caves of stalactites and stalagmites, curious rock formations, small ponds and beautiful waterfalls. Water. Added to the natural wealth of this environment is the beauty of the architectural heritage, the legacy of an old monastery that was built around the church of Sant Miquel (10th century). Bigues i Riells, which, as its place name indicates, is made up of two towns, is located in the valley of the Tenes River, a river course that crosses the western sector of the municipal term, after meeting with the Rossinyol, and which has in the Salto de Agua del Fai one of its most beautiful corners. In this very uneven terrain, the southern buttresses of the Gallifa cliffs meet. The Bertí cliffs also influence the relief of the municipality. The Riells valley is narrow, with the northern part embedded in the Sant Miquel valley. The wider Bigues valley is bounded on the east by the Loma de l'Ametlla and the Puiggraciós peak (807 metres).
