The Liberation of Bergen-belsen Concentration Camp, April 1945 On 20 April 1945, work to improve the conditions of the moderately unwell prisoners began. However the period during which the camp was designated a neutral zone had expired the previous day. Four German Focke Wulf fighter aircraft attacked the camp in the morning, killing three medical orderlies and damaging the water system and field ambulance. Photograph shows the damage to one of 11 Light Field Ambulance's vehicles.
