Such so-cieties mightreach and inter-est a large num-ber of Church-men, and at thesame time offerto the Boardssecretary on theoccasion of hisvisit a welcomeand an oppor-tunity to pleadthe greatercause. There-fore the Board of Missions was asked toappoint two secretaries, whose specialwork should be to inform students con-cerning conditions in the mission fieldand the opportunities for service support for two years of such an ef-fort having been provided without call-ing upon the resources of the Board, theRev. John J. Gravatt, Jr., and DeaconessHenrietta R. Goodwin were appointed.
