Alien planet 79 Ceti b and its sun. Artwork of 79 Ceti b (also called HD 16141b) with its parent star 79 Ceti (HD 16141). 79 Ceti b was discovered orbiting 79 Ceti in 2000. It orbits 52 million kilometres from its star (a third of the Earth-Sun distance), taking 76 days to complete an orbit. 79 Ceti is a yellow subgiant star that is older than the Sun's billion years and has a luminosity twice that of the Sun. It lies some 117 light years from Earth, in the constellation Cetus.
