Congoleum was a floor covering made from squares of bitumenised felt tiles covered in a patterned linseed oil/cellulose paint finish. It gave the appearance of a carpet covered floor but was much cheaper. The product also made vinyl floor and wall coverings. Congoleum began as a linoleum company in Kirkcaldy, Scotland in 1886 - vintage nineteen fifties graphics.
