It is then possible to arrange on the same foundation the greatest variety of com- binations and color schemes. With regard to the pillow, the moss- ing of this should be rather high— the dish flower is preferable, that is. without the top. The moss (always use sphagnum j should be piled rather high and bound on with a bobbin of wire, which is much to be preferred to string. When finished the straggling ends of the moss should be sheared off, which takes but a minute, and the entire surface, both top and bottom, covered with hardy ferns pinned on. If it is considered necessary to use foil on the bottom, let it be dark green. This applies to all designs. The frame having been solidly covered with flowers, sprays of six or more roses or other flowers hanging down from the corners add to and relieve the squareness of the design that is so often seen. Bringing two garlands or crescents from one corner of the pillow to the other at each end, mak- ing them full and high in the center, gives a pretty effect, and if choice flowers are used the result is a very handsome piece. When there be an inscription the garlands can be run lengthwise, which gives a long central space for the lettering. Another treatment which is also much admired, is to bring a garland or draping from the left hand cor- ner across the top to the opposite cor- ner, then another down the left side to the bottom. The center of this gar- land is quite high and full and oc- cupies about one-third of the surface from the corner. This leaves the right- hand side and bottom without embel- lishment, but the design is a decorated pillow and in every way desirable.
