Endochondral ossification, light micrograph

Endochondral ossification, light micrograph. Mixed bone trabeculae are a typical feature of endochondral officiation. They are the consequence of apposition of primary bone tissue around a bluish centre of acellular calcified cartilage (the chondrocytes died when the cartilage calcified). With time, the layer of primary bone thickens (the zone of ossification is on top).
