As the left section was swinging round the centre to get into position, ashell from the enemy struck the ground close to the lead horses, landing inthe midst of a sow and litter of pigs, which had been feeding quiteunconcernedly, though the shots were falling in every direction like shell sliced off the hind quarters of the sow, and with a most unearthlysqueal, she fell over, the pigs were scattered in every direction, somebeing thrown in the air, where they described all sorts of evolutions beforethey fell.
