The Peoria Railway Company has recently installed routesigns of a novel design on the city cars in Peoria, 111. Toadvise the public regarding the new system of car indica-tions, a card map showing the various route lines of streetrailway drawn to an exaggerated scale and the sign indica-tion applying to each was pasted in each car. The new sign is a triangular prism built of light structuralangles and 18-gage sheet metal, the base being shaped to fitthe contour of the car roof. Two signs are mounted atright-hand diagonal corners of each car, and the right-angle faces of the signs are set parallel to the front andsides of the car. These two faces are 17 in. x 18 in. insize and take a 12-in. initial letter and 3-in. letters in theprinted destination. All letters are perforated with 5 which permit reflected light from a single 16-cp lampinstalled between the letters on the sign front to illuminatethem at night. The interior of the sign is painted white tointensify the indirect letter illumination, making it possibleto read the sign easily at 500 ft. during either day or nigh
