Caribbean peoples. 17th-century artwork showing several Caribbean peoples. At top, is the form of canoe used at the time. At bottom is a depiction of cannibalism, with people shown cooking and eating their enemies. This engraving is from Book II of 'Voyages en Afrique, Asie, Indes orientales et occidentales' (1617) by the French explorer Jean Mocquet (). This 442-page work, divided into six books, described Mocquet's travels in Africa, Asia, and the West and East Indies.
