While leprosy bacilli stain readily by this method, tuberclebacilli will not stain in so short a of Asiatic Cholera (Comma Bacillus).— Morphology (Figs. 102, 103).—In fresh cultures the organismappears usually as a slightly curved rod somewhat shorterthan the tubercle bacillus, but much thicker. The curvingof the rod varies, being very marked in some individualsand absent in others. Sometimes two rods are joined endto end with their convexity pointing in opposite directions,or moderately long, undulating threads may be found. Itseems probable that the curved rods represent the segmentsof a spirillum, and hence the name of the organism. In cultures some days old degenerated and atypical forms 356 PATHOLOGICAL TECHNIQUE. are found (involution forms). The organism is motile, anda single flagellum is attached to the end of the rod. -4 *i$
