Those who knew himthen say that he was never a laggard at his the removal of Dr. Hanna to Cleveland in1852 the son was given a thorough education inthe Cleveland schools, and supplemented by aseason in the Western Reserve college at Hud-son. the age of twenty he entered the em-ploy of the firm of which his father was a mem-ber, and continued with that and its successor,Robert Hanna & Co., until 1867. During hisservice in that house, where he showed thepossession of the finest business qualities, and. MyOf/^ co^ performed his duties with industry and faithful-ness, he originated the Buckeye Oil company,which he managed in connection with his otherduties. On September 27, 1864, he was marriedto Miss C. Augusta Rhodes, daughter of the lateD. r. Rhodes, and in 1S67, on the retirementfrom business of the firm of Rhodes & Card, hewent into its successor, the firm of Rhodes &Co., that consisted of Robert Rhodes, G. and Mr. Hanna. They were heavydealers in coal and iron, with office and yards onthe river, and for a number of years did a mostextensive business. Their mines were locatedin the Tuscarawas valley, while their trade ex-tended all over the country. Their office wasafterwards removed to Water street, and morerecently to the Grand Arcade block on St. Clairstreet. In April, 1S85, the partnership was dis- soVved, and was succeeded by the firm of M. nna & Co., which purchased the business,and continued it as heretofore. While Mr.
