Golden Crownbeard an invasive plant species surrounding Laysan Albatross chick and overgrowing its nest. Verbesina encelioides Phoebastria immutabilis

Verbesina encelioides is an aggressive introduced weed on Midway Atoll. It poses a serious threat by reducing habitat for ground nesting birds including albatrosses. In addition to enclosing and trapping chicks, it interferes with native species through competition for nutrients and water, shading and allelopathic effects.
