Koses are coming more freely now, though they are by no means plentiful yet. Carnations remain the stand-by, for they are abundant and the quality good. Wholesale prices on both roses and carnations are higher than they have been most of the time this winter, but there is little sold at wholesale, as everyone has a demand for his own stock. Violets are plentiful, and they are coming with long stems. A week ago it looked as though the St. Valentine's day business was to be a disappointment, but it turned out to be the best ever, all having a good in- crease over last year and some report- ing almost double the business. At the 10-cent stores the paper valentines did not sell so well as formerly, we are told. Sweet peas sold as well as vio- lets, and other flowers came in for a full share of the business, though cor- sage bouquets sold best. There is a scarcity of pot plants of moderate price; cinerarias are about all that is left. Made-up boxes are still seen in plenty, and Dutch bulbs in pots are as plentiful as they will be this year. They have done well, but florists say that they cost too much, and there will be a great slump in the business here next season.
