Midway along the sides of the building-are the entrances on Thirty-first andThirty-third streets, which are flanked byseries of columns of the same dimensionsas those on the Seventh and Eighth Avenue facade. Abovethese colonnades are also sculptured groups supporting largeornamental clocks. The Eighth Avenue frontage is finishedwith pilasters, except at the spacious entrance to the mainfloor of the concourse from this side of the building. The ac-companying engravings, from recent photographs of the Pennsylvania Terminal—Eighth Avenue Fagade for exit purposes only. This exit concourse is 18 ft. above thetracks, but is connected with each of the track platforms bytwo stairways and one elevator. From it ample staircases andinclines lead directly to the street. The north side of the station, extending along Thirty-thirdStreet, has been assigned to the Long Island Railroad. Intothis part of the station trains will run from all points on Long give a good idea of the magnitude of the building and its dig-nified architectural treatment. The Western Railway of France is preparing plans for theelectrification of its lines between Saint-Germain and Argenteuilat a cost of $12,000,000. It is planned to begin work this yearand complete the change by 1914.
