Alveolar abscess wrongly diagnosed as pyorrhea. (Radiograph by Rhein, of New York.) incisors in an abscess. Both teeth carried perfectly adjusted porcelaincrowns. The skiagraph not only shows the involvement of both teeth, but also that the roots are properly filled. The treatment here is purelysurgical, and means the curettement of the affected area. Had theradiograph not been used the operator would, in all probability, havemade the laborious and foolish mistake of removing the crowns on theassumption that the canals were not properly filled. THE USES OF THE RADIOGRAPH IN DENTISTRY 193 35. Bs an Hid in Differential Diagnosis Between Chronic Alveolar Abscess andPyorrhea Areolaris. When a chronic alveolar abscess discharges about the neck of a tooththe case so closely simulates calcic pyorrhea alveolaris that, without usingthe radiograph or opening into the affected tooth, the operator cannotmake a definite diagnosis.
