Jackson, Cape Girardeau County, Missouri, \ Dear Sir : It is my desire, if compatible with your duties, toobtain from the Secretarys office a certified copy of the votesof Martin Van Buren in the New-York Convention, on the fol-lowing subjects : First. His vote on his opposition to any manvoting unless he was a householder. Secondly. His vote on theproposition to restrict the right of voting to white citizens ; andThirdly. His vote opposing the election of justices of the peaceby the people, and what he said directly on these subjects. Ifit is proper for you to give me such a certificate, I want it pro-perly authenticated ; on the contrary, if the votes of Van Burenwere in favor of universal suflfrage, in favor of elections of jus-tices of the peace by the people, and opposed to free negroesvoting, your simple statement to that effect w^ould be sufficient, and I would no longer urge the contrary against him as a revotesspeechesofm02vanb
