Police separate BLM and counter-protesters as they clash during a BLM march in Truro
A peaceful protest turned sour. 15/06/20 Residents of Truro were shocked to see a London style clash between Black Lives Matter protesters and members wanting to defend the war memorial on Bowcawen Street. It is said that this group gathered to defend the memorial following attacks on similar memorials across the country however no threats had been made to the memorial by the BLM group or on the Topple the Racists website. Some reports have said that the group had been high jacked and began hurling racial abuse as protesters walking past after 4pm which lead to a larger confrontation. Police formed lines by both groups to prevent them from clashing however abuse was still thrown by both sides as well as apples: it is currently unclear who threw the apples first but no police were targeted only the opposing protesters
