The mixed use scheme provides new commercial offices, retail, housing and employment facilities. The scheme alludes to the site’s industrial past and presents a series of iconic buildings, thus creating high quality public realm. The opening of the food store represents the completion of phase 1. Designed as a pavilion, the store responds to new public routes with an active frontage animated by views of the store within. Using materials reminiscent of those worked in the foundry that previously occupied the site, the roof is expressed as a folded metal plate floating over the store, providing the building with a unique identity.
