General colour above ashy grey; lesser and median coverts like the back; greater coverts dusky, externally ashy grey, a little lighter than the back ; bastard-wing, primary-coverts, and quills blackish brown, externally edged with ashy grey, the pri- maries margined with paler ashy, the inner secondaries lighter ashy on the outer webs, resembling the greater coverts; rump and upper tail-coverts a little paler than the back ; tail-feathers dusky brown, edged with ashy, the outer feathers fringed with white round the end of the inner web ; crown of head like the back; lores and base of forehead blackish ; eyelid whitish; ear-coverts ashy grey, with whitish shaft-lines; cheeks ashy grey, blackish at the base and below the eye; throat white; fore neck, breast, and sides of body pale ashy grey ; abdomen and under tail-coverts white ; thighs also white; under wing-coverts and axillaries pale ashy grey, with hoary margins; quills below dusky, ashy along the inner edge: " bill citron-yellow; legs dirty yellow, with claws of the same colour ; iris clear brown " (JelsJci). Total length 6-4 inches, culmen 0-65, wing 3-45, tail 2-6, tarsus 0-95. Adult female. Similar to the male, and only distinguished by the clear grey colour of the upper parts of the body and on all the margins of the quills and tail-feathers ; the under surface is whitish, slightly inclined to isabelline washed with grey on the breast and flanks ; lores blackish, slate-colour only on the anterior portion.
