U Altstadt Spandau Underground U-Bahn railway station serves the U7 line In Alt-Spandau, Berlin, Germany. Decorative subway station designed by Rainer G. Rümmler The station opened as part of the north-west extension of the U7 to Spandau on October 1, 1984 and is located under the eponymous old town and lies parallel to the street Am Juliusturm. The architect was Rainer G. Rümmler and the decorative station received listed status in March 2017, together with six other northern U7 stations It lies at a depth of 14 meters because the nearby Havel had to be crossed to the east and the caisson construction method was used for the construction of this station. In the direction of the Spandau town hall, the shield tunneling method was used to preserve the historically important building structures in Spandau's old town. Almost 40 years after it opened, the U7 Altstadt Spandau underground station is being equipped with two elevators and this will make it barrier-free for the first time. This should be completed in 2024 and the escalators that currently lead down to the U7 line will be removed.
