The swimming centre at Market Drayton, Shropshire, threatened by local authority cuts, with alternative funding sought
Market Drayton had an outdoor swimming pool, built in the 1930s, which could only be used in the summer. The cattle market in the town was moved in the 1990s and the site sold to Safeway supermarket. The supermarket funded the building of the swimming pool as part of that deal. The pool was then subsidised by the local authority which now wants to cut most leisure facilities to save money.
