Field Marshal Omar Hassan Ahmad Al-Bashir is the former President of Sudan who served as the seventh head of state of Sudan under various titles from 1989 until he was desposed in a coup in 2019. He came to power in 1989 when he led a group of officers in a bloodless coup that ousted the government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi. Bashir is the first sitting head of state to ever indicted by the International Criminal Court, for genocide.
