Easter was an exceptionally warm, sunshiny, beautiful day and was pre- ceded by an equally delightful week. The unusual warmth and the abundance of sunshine had made most of the out- door spring bulbous flowers a thing of the past. In fact, everything conspired to make the Easter business exception- ally good. Never before in the history of Nashville were there more high-grade lilies. There were many short, stocky ])lants, each one with five or six good blooms. The growers had timed matters just right in order to have everything at its best. The sunshine had brought on a heavy crop of both roses and car- nations. In fact, for once Nashville had more high-class cut flowers than it could use locally on a major holiday. Business started in early. A week be- fore Easter many plants were already being delivered, and every
