Kidney damage, coloured computed tomography (CT) scan. Scan from below, showing a horizontal section through the abdomen of a woman who has been in a traffic accident. The front of the body is at top and the spine can be seen below (solid white). The patient's right kidney (red, left) has been lacerated, causing it to haemorrhage (bleed) and become displaced downward. Lacerations are irregular, tear-like wounds caused by some form of blunt trauma. Kidney lacerations are also common injuries associated with contact-sports.
