SEEDX »HlLa}EIiPlMlk\ 57 Dreer's Two Magnificent African Marigolds The African Marigolds have been a favorite garden annual for centuries, and their popularity seems to increase with the passing years. Few plants are as effective in large beds or when interspersed through the hardy or mixed border, or among shrubbery, and within the last few years they have been in strong demand as cut flowers among the highest class floral artists. A large blue vase or bowl filled with the huge, long-stemmed golden orange or soft lemon yellow blossoms is decidedly striking. For early flowering the seed may be sown indoors or in a frame in March or April, but it is just as well to sow outdoors when the weather gets warm. They come up in a few days and can be thinned out or transplanted not less than one foot apart. They attain a height of (about three feet and prefer light, but rich, soil. An occasional appUcation of liquid fertilizer will increase the size and brilliancy of the blooms. The two varieties offered below have been grown for us by a specialist and are extra high grade and bear in continuous succession from early summer until frost their large, densely double quilled flowers. It is well-known that the very finest strains of Mari- golds will produce a small percentage of plants with single flowers. These are very artistic and almost as decorative and useful for cutting as the perfectly double flowers. 3085 Lemon Queen.
