Amnesty International members picket outside of the Yahoo! Inc. Headquarters on World Press Freedom Day.

Amnesty International USA members picket outside of the Yahoo! Inc. headquarters building in Sunnyvale, California, on World Press Freedom Day, May 3, 2010, to demand that Yahoo publicly call for the release of Shi Tao, a Chinese journalist who was sentenced to 10 years in prison. According to Reporters Without Borders, Yahoo’s Hong Kong office helped the Chinese Government link Shi Tao’s e-mail account and computer to a message containing an internal Communist Party message that he sent to Foreign-based websites. Photo shows Pickets with tape over their mouths as a symbol of ‘Free Speech’. In 1997 the United Nations General Assembly designated May 3rd every year as ‘World Press Freedom Day (WPFD). Since the first WPFD global conference was held in Bilbao, Spain, conferences have been held on all the world’s continents. Photo by Chuck Nacke
