[The story of the poets life has been very fully interwovenwith the chronological arrangement of his works in this andthe preceding volumes ; but as the student may wish to studyit in a connected form, we have much pleasure in being ableto present it in such a graphic and concise narrative as seldomoccurs with the memoirs of any man. It was written by Alexander Smith,* who, next to Burns, isthe best poet Ayrshire has produced. This memoir elicitedfrom Mr. Wm.
