Women undertook many male roles such as welding during the first world war. Written on the border of the postcard is "London Aircraft Hackney 1918" The introduction of men's conscription in 1916 made the need for female workers urgent . By 1917 munitions factories, primarily employed women workers - 90% in some factories.
