Macartney, , under the firm nameof Macartney, McElroy, & Co., for the con-struction of electric roads. This firm wassuccessful in securing a number of contractsin this country and in Canada, chief amongwhich were those for roads at New Bruns-wick and Bound Brook, N. J., Highlandsand Syracuse, N. Y., Hamilton, O., Hamil-. J. A. McElroy ton, Ont., and Sherbrooke, Que. They alsodesigned the (water) power station, together THE STEVENS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY with the dam, canal, etc., for the Syracuse& Suburban Railway, Syracuse, N. Y. In 1898 Messrs. Macartney and McElroyorganized the firm of Macartney, McElroy, &Co., Ltd., under British laws, and with theregistered ofifice of the company in its second year the firm increased itscapital from £12,000 to £60,000; and since itsorganization it has executed contracts atGlasgow and Aberdeen, Scotland; at Man-chester, Brighton, Southampton, Halifax,Southport, Hartlepool, Stockport, etc., inEngland; at Lisbon, Portugal; at Durbanand Delagoa Bay, South Africa; and at Wel-lington, N.
