Anglo-Irish father and son in the early 19th century, on the eve of the Great War

A smartly-dressed Anglo-Irish father and son in the early 19th century, prior to the First World War. The father, William H Kerr, was a member of a Protestant family living in Rathmines, Dublin, Ireland. William and his wife Edith had three sons. During the First World War, William served in the Corps of Royal Engineers of the British Army and was ultimately promoted to major. In another formal studio portrait of him where he is wearing a British Army sergeant's uniform, he looks several years older than in this photograph.
