A green plaque commemorating the 2is' Coffee Bar in Soho.
The 2is' Coffee Bar at 59 Old Compton Street in Soho was where early British pop stars such as Cliff Richard, Tommy Steele and Marty Wilde were discovered in the 1950's. The bar is believed to have been named after the original owners, two brothers called Irani. It became a centre for British Skiffle and Rock'n'Roll fans and was a meeting point for aspiring musicians hoping to be spotted by promoters. Its success declined after the mid-60's when successful groups were able to play much larger venues and it finally closed in 1967. The green plaque was installed in September 2006.
