Reproductive parts of flowers. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). These are florets, the true flowers that form the flowering structures of plants in the Compositae family. Leaf-like structures (smooth) are seen. These protected the floret when it was closed (as at top right). Open florets are exposing reproductive parts for pollen distribution and reception. Magnification: x16 at 6x7cm size.
