A committee was appointedby the Board of Trustees, with the power to erect abuilding for the Robert Raikes School on the CarpenterStreet lot, provided surety was given that the Trusteesbe indemnified against any liability that might arisefrom the construction of the building. Captain Whill-din offered this surety, and was accepted. At thistime occurred the sudden death of Dr. Brainerd, andof Captain Whilldin. At a meeting of the Board onOctober 29, 1866, the remaining members of the com-mittee stated that the death of Dr. Brainerd and Cap-tain Whilldin had made the carrying forth
