This re-sult appears to be brought about by fric-tion of the food under the pressure of thetongue during the many hours of dailygrazing and chewing. This tooth, stand-ing at the end of the row, is naturallymuch more exposed than the others. It is not impossible that unusuallycoarse food may have been taken by theanimal at some period of its life, and the be accounted for by the fact that in theincisors of the horse the enamel extendswell toward the end of the root and thedentin is not exposed at the neck, where-as t
